September brings us to the end of the Young Marine Year. That being said we need to complete some events for those Young Marines continuing in the program. At our next drill we will be conducting the Health Fitness Test (HFT), which needs to be completed and scores entered into their record book. Hopefully cooler weather will be in the forecast for that day. We held off doing this test due to the hot weather. Community Service hours will also have to be completed and posted into the Young Marine’s record book by September 30th .

The biggest event during this month is re-registering all those continuing in the program. At our last

drill we had only eight Young Marines re-register. We hope those needing to register do so at any

event we may be having. We have tried to leave September the 13th and 20th available for recruits to

register, but if you plan to re-register please do so on those days or as soon as possible. Based on the

inquires into our program the number of recruits may exceed this years class.

During our election on August 12th, I was reelected as Commanding Officer and Jesse Perez was

elected Executive Officer. Master Sergeant Kidd has assumed duties as Adjutant and Debbie Miller

continues as Paymaster with Lynette Stanfill continuing as our Purchasing Agent and Jeff Wilhelm as

our Logistics Officer.

The Young Marine Ball committee continues to work on preparations for the Young Marine Ball.

Alicia Cadena plans for the next meeting to be on September 23rd during the Young Marine promotion

testing. She asks that those collecting prizes for the ball bring the prizes with them or an itemized list of items collected. We have had a storage bin donated to store items collected. If you have any questions you can contact Alicia at 563-9345.

Again admission to the ball for our Young Marines and new recruits is one ticket for a completed

progress report. Dress for the Young Marine Ball is semi-formal to formal. Tickets for the ball are

$5.00 except for those on any committees (prize solicitors, setup, and cleanup) for the ball.

We would have had our first parking assignment by the time you received this newsletter. We had a

very hard time filling the 20 positions assigned to us due to the game being played on a weekday with

school and people working. We are still asking for help on the games for September 6th with a 2:30

PM show time and the 13th with an 8:00 AM show time. Please contact Jesse Perez at 744-6345 if you can help on these days.

Many community hours are still available before we close out the month. We have the VA Social on

the 13th, POW/MIA Remembrance on the 14th as well as the Mexican Independence Day Parade, the

Multiple Sclerosis Walk set up on the 26th and the Multiple Sclerosis Walk on the 27th . These hours

will put quite a few Young Marines over their required 50 hours of community service should they take

advantage of these events.

Jesse Perez, I and our wives were at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego for Marine Private

First Class Miguel Perez’s graduation from boot camp. The event brought back many memories of the

past and the depot has changed quite a bit. The week was filled with many ceremonies which were

enjoyed by an enormous crowd of families, friends and supporters. PFC Perez is here on leave and

may have his leave extended 10 days if he is accepted to the Recruiters Assistance Program. A job well done Private First Class Perez.
